Insulin Resistance and Acupunture

Insulin resistance is where the natural hormone insulin becomes less effective at lowering blood sugar. It is closely associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, polycystic ovary syndrome, non alcohol related fatty liver diseases, metabolic syndrome and is also a risk factor for serious diseases such as cardiovascular disease. Recent research has found that acupunture can have a positive effect on reducing insulin resistance. It is reported that acupunture can assist the body in regulating blood sugar levels, improve the body's ability to use insulin correctly, stimulate certain chemicals in the body that are responsible for reducing body fat and increasing appetite, and reduce inflammation (anything that is red, hot, painful and/or swollen) across the body.
