It is well understood that antibiotics are ineffective in treating a viral infection. However, there are several chinese medicinal herbs that have been shown to be effective in treating viral infections. Researchers from the National Chiayi University in Taiwan, have found that the herbs, the Tokyo violet herb and Radix Isatidis (tea) herb can effectively treat herpes-simplex-virus type 1 and 2 and the virus (enterovirus 71) causing hand foot and mouth disease in children.
